Scholarship Applications
Application forms are provided in the box to on the right. These forms are .pdf files and require Acrobat Reader for viewing and printing. How to Apply
Look to the right and choose the application form for the scholarship you are apply for. Print out the appropriate form and submit it along with the required items listed below to the address at the bottom of this page.
Applications will be considered when the following information is recieved:
- A typed letter stating your reason for applying. Indicate special needs, family circumstances and how you plan to finance your education.
- On a separate sheet of paper, a list of extracurricular activities, memberships in clubs, offices held, honors received, and any involvement in church, sports, or community.
- A copy of the front page of your family's most recent tax return. If your parents are separated or divorced, you must also submit a copy of a tax return for the parent you're not living with.
Only complete applications will be considered. All information must be submitted at one time prior to the deadline.

Selection Procedure
Selection is based on the following criteria:
- Definite financial need....................50%
- Academic achievement...................25%
- Motivation......................................25%
Finalists will be interviewed by a committee and may be asked to attend an orientation session and supply a color photograph. Finalists will be requested to submit a complete transcript from high school or college, including results of extrance exams, SAT, etc.
Conditions
- Scholarship recipients and their parents are urged to attend the Blue Ridge Electric Annual Membership Meeting the second Saturday in June to be recognized as a scholarship winner.
- All scholarships are one-year scholarships designated for the first year of post-secondary education, and are not renewable.
- If a recipient forfeits rights to their scholarship within the acedemic year of receipt, remaining funds will be awarded to another student.
- If the winner of a scholarship learns that he or she is to receive a FULL scholarship from another source, they must notify Blue Ridge Electric and relinquish the scholarship, which will then be awarded to another student.
- Scholarship recipients will be recognized at high school awards day functions or at graduation exercises.
- Blue Ridge Electric reserves the right to make the initial announcement of scholarship winners.
- Management of Blue Ridge Electric has authority to render decisions regarding questions that are not answered in this brochure.
- Once a scholarship has been awarded, monies cannot be transferred to another college.
- All monies will be paid to two parties, the scholarship recipient and the college.
Payment of Scholarship
In order to receive payment, scholarship recipients must send a copy of their fall schedule to Blue Ridge Electric, PO Box 112, Lenoir, NC 28645. The cooperative will then pay half of the total scholarship with a check made out to both the college and the student.
Prior to the second semester, the recipient must send a copy of their spring schedule. Final payment will be made at that time.
