Lenoir, North Carolina (December 3, 2007) – Numerous children in Caldwell County will benefit during this special time of year from a recent donation by Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation to Caldwell Friends.
Sandra Hicks, director of member services, and Jeff Almond, Caldwell district manager, recently presented Tana Murray, executive director of Caldwell Friends, with gift cards to purchase holiday gifts and supplies for children associated with the agency.
“This donation comes at a very critical time of year and is very much appreciated,” said Murray. “It will be used to brighten the holidays for many children.”
Caldwell Friends is a nonprofit agency committed to helping children ages 7 to 17 who can benefit from additional adult role models involved in their lives. The agency operates with volunteer assistance from adults who can volunteer at least two hours a week of their time to spend with a child listening and interacting.
“When we learned of the great need for funds right now at Caldwell Friends, we wanted to step in to help out this very worthy organization,” said Hicks, who also serves on the board of Caldwell Friends.
“Helping improve the quality of life in our local communities is one of the very important ways we demonstrate the cooperative difference and it’s why we’re pleased to make this donation,” added Almond.
Blue Ridge Electric is a member-owned electric cooperative serving some 70,000 consumers in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes, Avery and Alexander counties.
