Sparta, North Carolina (November 21, 2007) – Two Alleghany County educators were the recipients of a Bright Ideas grant from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation to implement her innovative teaching idea.
Bright Ideas is an academic grants program sponsored by Blue Ridge Electric in conjunction with the North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation and its 26 other member electric cooperatives. Bright Ideas grants help further traditional academic learning by funding worthy projects that go beyond available school funding.
Jill Gambill and Ashley Price, Piney Creek Elementary school teachers, were presented $345 by Blue Ridge Electric District Manager Joe Ward to implement the project “Parents in the Picture”. The project is designed to reach parents of middle grade students, who will be invited to attend a family math night with their children. The goal of the project is for the parents to become more familiar with state math goals and objectives, as well as specific math tools such as graphing calculators.
Blue Ridge Electric is celebrating its 14th year of offering Bright Ideas grants as part of its support and commitment to education. To date, Blue Ridge Electric has awarded almost $250,000 and provided direct funding assistance that has impacted more than 66,000 students. Blue Ridge Electric is part of the network of North Carolina electric cooperatives providing Bright Ideas grants.
