Lenoir, North Carolina (January 23, 2006) – Lenoir resident Joyce White was recently awarded the Honored Cooperator Award, Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation’s highest honor given to a retired employee.
White received a Waterford crystal Benjamin Franklin Liberty Bowl to commemorate the honor.
During her 34-year tenure at Blue Ridge Electric, Joyce served in multiple positions. Upon her retirement in 1996, Joyce served in customer service in the Caldwell district office.
“Joyce made a big impact on me personally as I watched this lady who was a dedicated employee and truly loved Blue Ridge, our members, and her co-workers,” said Sandra Hicks, who worked with Joyce and now serves as district manager of Caldwell district and call center manager. “She made each member feel special and treated them with respect and the highest regard. Members came in for years, still asking for Joyce by name,” Hicks noted.
The Honored Cooperator Award distinguishes select retired employees who have contributed in an outstanding way to the development and operation of the cooperative. Recipients exemplify cooperative principles including commitment to community, innovation, accountability in delivering customer service, and integrity throughout their lives. Each year, a committee of employees and former employees select the Honored Cooperator out of a pool of nominations submitted by current and former employees.
Blue Ridge Electric Membership Cooperation is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving some 68,000 member-owners in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany counties as well as portions of Alexander and Wilkes counties.
