Lenoir, North Carolina (December 15,---4 p.m., 2005) – Power restoration efforts continue as linemen with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation work this afternoon to repair lines damaged by falling trees and limbs after an ice storm earlier today.

Approximately 700 people across the cooperative’s service territory are without power at 4 p.m. Additional crews have been called in to assist in restoring power as quickly as possible this evening.

The majority of the outages are in Alleghany County, where 400 members were affected after a tree fell on a power line in the Mertie Road area at 1:30 p.m. Outages are scattered across southern Caldwell County, where linemen are working to restore power to approximately 200 members who lost power starting at 2 p.m.. In Watauga County, 62 members in the Cranberry Springs community have been affected since 3:32 p.m. And in Ashe County, 92 members near the Alleghany County line on Hwy. 88 were without power starting at 2:35 p.m.

For public safety, Blue Ridge Electric reminds individuals to stay away from downed power lines, which can still be energized and therefore dangerous or even deadly. Contact Blue Ridge Electric immediately to report a downed power line.
