Lenoir, North Carolina (December 15,---2 p.m., 2005) – Linemen and crews with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation are working to restore power this afternoon to 319 members in Caldwell County who were affected by this morning’s icy weather. Outages are currently concentrated in the Oak Hill, Hudson, and Granite Falls communities.
Trees and limbs falling on power lines are the primary cause of outages today. Six extra crews have been called in to assist the cooperative’s regular team of linemen in Caldwell County to ensure timely power restoration.
For public safety, Blue Ridge Electric reminds individuals to stay away from downed power lines since they can still be energized and therefore dangerous or even deadly. If a power line is lying on the ground, or if a tree falls on a line, STAY AWAY!! Additionally, don’t drive vehicles over downed power lines. Contact Blue Ridge Electric immediately if you see a downed power line.
To report a power outage, call the cooperative’s Powerline—its automated outage reporting system—at 1-800-448-2383. Or contact the local offices of Blue Ridge Electric in Caldwell County at 754-9071. The cooperative is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the event of outages, Blue Ridge Electric’s Customer Service Center also brings in staff throughout the duration of the storm.
