Sparta, North Carolina (November 22, 2004) – To better serve eastern Alleghany County, Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation will be energizing its Glade Valley substation tonight.

This will necessitate a one- to two-hour outage beginning at midnight for members in the Glade Valley, Roaring Gap and Hooker communities, which are served by the Glade Valley substation. Members with electronic clocks are advised to use battery-back up in the clocks or use a wind-up clock tonight if they are dependent upon an alarm clock.

The project also included changing the transmission system serving the county from 44 kv to100 kv in order to handle the growing electricity needs of Alleghany County.

Blue Ridge Electric planned the energizing of the substation and necessary outage during a time that normally causes the least impact on residents and businesses, according to Renee Whitener, director of corporate communications.

Whitener added that Blue Ridge Electric appreciates the cooperation and patience of its members as this necessary work is performed to ensure reliable service now and into the future for its members.

Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative utility serving some 67,000 members in northwest North Carolina.
