Lenoir, North Carolina (November 24, 2003) – To better serve southern Caldwell County, Blue Ridge Electric Member-ship Corporation will be energizing a new substation to serve the Grace Chapel area at 10 a.m. Tuesday, necessitating a brief outage for some members in that area.
Power is expected to be off for five to 10 minutes, beginning at 10 a.m., for approximately 1,000 members during the process of energizing the new substation. Those to be affected live on the following roads: Grace Chapel, Bowman, Rocky Mount, Petra Mill, Starnes, and Icard Dam.
The substation is being upgraded to meet the electricity needs of this fast- growing area of Caldwell County, according to Jeff Benfield, operations manager.
Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving over 66,000 members in northwest North Carolina.
