Blue Ridge Electric Honors Employees with Service Awards

Boone, North Carolina (October 27, 2000) — A group of 30 employees from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation and its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, were recently recognized for their service to the companies.

The company’s annual awards dinner was held recently at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center in Boone and featured remarks by Chief Executive Officer Doug Johnson.

Of the 30 recipients, five are employees of the company’s Watauga district office. They include: Judy Kerley, customer service representative, 25 years; R.D. Graybeal and Hal Isaacs, field service technicians, 15 years; Nina Greene, customer accounts representative, 10 years; and Keith Hensley, line technician A, 5 years.

Watauga County residents Gary Herman, Ed Brown, Steve Peterson, Gwynita Steele, and Geri Styers, all employees of Blue Ridge Electric’s corporate headquarters in Lenoir were also presented with awards. Herman, construction specialist, and Brown, computer operator, are 25-year veterans. Peterson, with a 20-year career, works as a construction manager. Steele, director of customer service, and Styers, a consumer accountant, were recognized for 10 years of service with the cooperative.

Johnson also recognized several other employees from the cooperative’s Lenoir headquarters and district offices in Caldwell, Ashe, and Alleghany counties for service milestones. They are: Gerald Huffman, 40 years; Sandra Hicks and Fred Brooks, 25 years; Mary Sue Boutwell, Mike Lowe, and Roger Church, 20 years; Dwight Shepherd, Teena Little, Thomas Witherspoon, Tony Absher, Olan Pruitt, Jeff Walker, Teresa Marley, and Regina Bolick, 15 years; Beverly Poole, Roger Barlow, Steve Carpenter, Karen Ford, and Leonard Church, 10 years; Sheila Callahan, 5 years.

Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving over 60,000 members in northwest North Carolina. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, is a propane, heating fuels, and commercial gasoline provider with offices in Lenoir, Morganton, Boone, and West Jefferson.
