Lenoir, North Carolina (September 21, 2009) –Jacob Dunn of Lenoir and Trevor Burkhalter of Hudson participated in the Roy Williams Basketball Camp late this summer in Chapel Hill on scholarships from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation. Jacob is the son of Tracy Dunn and Trevor is the son of Gloria and Steve Burkhalter.

Jacob and Trevor were two of the 27 deserving young men awarded scholarships from North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to attend the Roy Williams Basketball Camp this year. Winners of the Roy Williams Basketball Camp scholarship were selected by a panel of judges who reviewed an application that included an essay about the students’ reason for wanting to participate in the camp. Jacob and Trevor were selected based on the excellence of their applications and accompanying essays. The Roy Williams Camp was held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation is excited to reward our outstanding young co-op members with this wonderful opportunity year after year,” said Jeff Almond, Caldwell district manager for Blue Ridge Electric.

This is the fourth year that North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives, including Blue Ridge Electric, have sponsored young men to attend basketball camp at UNC. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives have also provided scholarships for young women to attend basketball camp at N.C. State in Raleigh for the past six years.

The Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship program is part of the electric cooperatives’ ongoing commitment to North Carolina communities.
