Boone, North Carolina (September 11, 2008)Scott Eggers, of Boone, has been named director of energy services for Blue Ridge Energies, a wholly owned heating fuels subsidiary of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation.

Eggers will be filling a new role at Blue Ridge Energies to lead the development of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs that will benefit consumers by helping them manage rising energy costs. The programs will be provided through a contract between Blue Ridge Energies and its parent company, Blue Ridge Electric, and are part of the cooperative’s efforts to partner with members to protect the environment by implementing more sustainable energy efficiency practices. Through a strong partnership between Blue Ridge Electric and its members to implement these programs, they will also help the cooperative meet the state’s new Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS) which requires all utilities to incorporate more energy efficiency programs and renewable energy into their power supply portfolio.

Eggers started his career with Blue Ridge Electric in 1986 and has worked in a broad range of areas including load management, electric services, and most recently served as heating fuels manager providing propane and other heating fuels and gas products to Watauga and Avery counties for the cooperative’s subsidiary.

“Scott will be playing a very strategic and important role in developing and implementing energy efficiency programs,” said Doug Johnson, chief executive officer of Blue Ridge Electric. “We’re working hard as a company to do our part to take care of the environment and we will be asking members to get involved in this effort because their participation will be a key to the success of these programs. We look forward to partnering with our members and the cooperative’s subsidiary for a cleaner environment for future generations.”

Eggers will develop programs such as solar thermal water heating, community weatherization projects, CFL (compact fluorescent bulb) distribution and sales, and standby power generation.
