Whitener Completes Management Internship Program

Lenoir, North Carolina (June 14, 2007) — Renee Whitener, director of public relations for Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation, recently graduated from the Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program (MIP) at the University of Wisconsin.
The MIP is a program of the National Rural Electric Association in association with the business school of the University of Wisconsin. It provides comprehensive analysis of the functions and processes of management and their practical applications. MIP certification is earned by completing the six week program as well as developing and presenting the results of a personal project that applies the skills learned during the MIP and which will be applied to issues at the participant’s cooperative.
Whitener is also a graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in communications. She has worked with Blue Ridge Electric since 1998.
Affiliated with Touchstone Energy, Blue Ridge Electric is a member-owned electric cooperative serving some 70,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes, Avery and Alexander counties.
