Department of Labor Recognizes Blue Ridge Electric and Blue Ridge Energies for Safety

Lenoir, North Carolina (August 21, 2006) – Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation and its heating fuels subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, was recognized for outstanding safety records during North Carolina Department of Labor’s annual Western North Carolina Safety Awards Banquet held recently in Morganton.

Cherie Killian Berry, Commissioner of Labor, presented Blue Ridge Electric and Blue Ridge Energies with several awards from the Department of Labor during its recognition of state public agencies and private firms that maintain excellent safety records for the preceding year.

Employee teams lead the safety program at Blue Ridge Electric and Blue Ridge Energies with oversight and coordination of safety programs and training provided by Ronnie Jewell, safety and training manager.

Receive awards from Blue Ridge were: the Catawba County office of Blue Ridge Energies, a four year award; Caldwell County office of Blue Ridge Energies, a two year award; Watauga County office of Blue Ridge Energies, a two year award; Ashe County office of Blue Ridge Electric, a 10-year award; Alleghany County office of Blue Ridge Electric, a four year award; Caldwell County office of Blue Ridge Electric, a one year award; and the corporate office of Blue Ridge Electric, a seven year award.

Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving some 70,000 members in northwest North Carolina. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, serves homes and businesses with propane, home heating fuels and gas logs, fireplaces, and other hearth products from offices in Lenoir, Boone, West Jefferson, Sparta and Hickory.
