Lightening Storms Cause Outages in Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany Counties

Lenoir, North Carolina (July 5, 2006) – Summer lightening storms led to an outage for all of Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga counties Wednesday evening. Some 52,000 members of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation were affected.
The 13 minute outage occurred when lightening storms affected power transmission from Duke Energy and the cooperative’s transmission system feeding electricity to the three mountain counties.
The outages began at 8:07 p.m. and were fully restored at 8:20 p.m.
Blue Ridge Electric is a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative serving 69,000 member-owners in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes and Alexander counties.
