Raleigh, North Carolina (April 28, 2006) – Martha McKnight, a director of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation, was recently elected vice chairwoman of the state electric cooperative’s executive committee of REAP (Rural Electric Action Committee).

REAP provides for its electric cooperative members an opportunity to make a meaningful and measurable contribution to public servants who share with REAP members an appreciation of electric cooperatives and rural communities, and their value to North Carolina. REAP promotes an understanding of the electric cooperatives’ objectives for local communities among government officials and candidates for state and national office on a non-partisan basis.

McKnight’s election came during the statewide annual meeting of the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives (NCAEC) held in Raleigh earlier this month.

McKnight has served on the Blue Ridge Electric board of directors since 1984 and is currently chairperson of the Policy and Member Relations Committee. A credentialed cooperative director, McKnight is also a delegate to TEMA (The Tarheel Electric Membership Association), which serves the state’s 27 cooperatives as a central purchasing and warehousing source as well as an emergency dispatching agency during times of emergency.

Blue Ridge Electric is a local, member-owned electric cooperative serving some 69,000 consumers in the northwest North Carolina counties of Alleghany, Ashe, Watauga, Caldwell, Wilkes, Avery and Alexander. For more information, visit www.BlueRidgeEMC.com.
