Lenoir, North Carolina (February 23, 2006) – Mallery Clay was among 35 young women recognized for receiving a Touchstone Energy scholarship to attend the 2005 Kay Yow Basketball Camp, sponsored by Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation. The scholarship recipients were honored during a special halftime presentation at the February 12th Wolfpack Women’s basketball game against Georgia Tech. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives awarded more than $14,250 in scholarship money to the deserving young women in 2005.

Mallery is the daughter of Dr. Hank and Bessie Clay of Lansing.

The scholarship winners were treated to a catered barbecue lunch and were escorted to their seats behind the basketball goal to cheer on the Wolfpack Women’s basketball team. At halftime, the 35 scholarship winners were recognized on the court, receiving a certificate of achievement from Nelle Hotchkiss, senior vice president of North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives, as well as congratulatory hugs from Mr. and Mrs. Wolf, North Carolina State University’s mascots.

Mallery was selected as one of the scholarship recipients as a result of her excellent application and essay on “Why I Want to Attend Kay Yow Basketball Camp.” Across the state, more than 38 young women were chosen to attend this nationally known basketball camp in Raleigh in June 2005.

“Blue Ridge Electric was delighted to continue the Touchstone Energy scholarship winners’ educational experience by inviting them to exciting Division 1 collegiate game,” said Gwynita Steele, district manager of Blue Ridge Electric’s Ashe office.

Blue Ridge Electric is currently accepting applications for the 2006 Touchstone Energy Sports Camps program and is proud to announce two basketball scholarship programs for 2006. Touchstone Energy Sports Camps Scholarships are being offered to the Kay Yow Basketball camp for female students in 6-8th grades and to the Roy Williams Basketball Camp for male students in 6-8th grades. The scholarships will send 27 deserving young women to the Kay Yow Basketball Camp at North Carolina State University and 27 deserving young men to the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Applications for both camps will be accepted from January through March 31, 2006. Winners will be announced by May 1. Students can download applications for the scholarships at www.ncemcs.com. Applicants will be judged on their academics, extra-curricular activities and an essay.
