Local Students Awarded Scholarships From Blue Ridge Electric

Lenoir, North Carolina (August 12, 2005) – Several local students have recently been awarded college scholarships by Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation.
The scholarships are designed to assist students in their educational goals and are awarded annually to deserving high school seniors and adults living within the cooperative’s service territory.
The following students were awarded Goodman-Hurt $2,000 scholarships:
Virginia Abher, daughter of Loy and Debbie Absher of Sparta, who will attend North Carolina State University;
Heather Severt, daughter of Danny and Margaret Severt of Jefferson, who will attend Appalachian State University;
Charity Dollar, daughter of Cristie Dollar of Boone, who will attend Appalachian State University; and Douglas Dupell of, son of Douglas and Lisa Dupell of Hickory, who will attend North Carolina State University.
The following students were awarded Goodman-Hurt $800 scholarships:
Laura Segraves, daughter of Roger and Mary Segraves of Ennice, who will attend Surry Community College;
Jessica Bare, daughter of Robert Bare of Crumpler, who will attend Surry Community College;
Dilmun Holsclaw, son of Joey Lee and Lissa Holsclaw of Lenoir, who will attend Caldwell Community College.
Sharing an $800 Goodman-Hurt Scholarship:
Elyse Bledsoe, daughter of Tim and Shelia Bledsoe of Boone, who will attend Caldwell Community College; and Boone Berlin, son of Timothy and Mary Vance Berlin of Boone, who will attend Montgomery Community College.
The winner of the Charles Suddreth $800 memorial scholarship is:
Kodi Wallace, granddaughter of Vance and Melba Wallace and daughter of the late William M. Wallace of Granite Falls, who will attend Caldwell Community College.
The winner of the Tom Cockerham $800 memorial scholarship is:
Tanya Roop, daughter of Tina Roop and the late Earl. E. Dale of Lansing, will attend Wilkes Community College.
The Tom Cockerham and Charles Suddreth scholarships are scholarships formed to honor former board members of the cooperative. The Tom Cockerham scholarship is awarded each year to one Ashe County resident seeking a 2-year degree. The Charles Suddreth scholarship goes to a Caldwell County resident seeking a 2-year degree.
Applications for the scholarships are available each year through local high school guidance counselors, community colleges in the Blue Ridge Electric service territory, or on-line at www.BlueRidgeEMC.com.
