Lenoir, North Carolina (August 18, 2004) – Casey Campbell, a South Caldwell High School senior, is performing a student internship with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation as part of her work with The Career Center of Caldwell County.

Campbell, who is taking the Business Advanced Studies course of study with the Career Center, will work at the corporate office of Blue Ridge Electric and will gain exposure to various departments and work activities.

Casey has been very active in her community and church, having received the Governor’s Award for Volunteerism. A volunteer with Western Carolina Center for the past three years in the psychology and recreation departments, she’s also been awarded the Jason Hudson Award for Volunteerism, the Citizenship Award from Baton Rotary Club, and the Silver Award in Girl Scouts among other honors.

She is vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America and is a member of the Beta Club and Juniorettes.

The daughter of Fred and Lisa Campbell of Baton, Casey plans to pursue a career in the health care field after majoring in either pharmacy, physical therapy or sonography in college.

The Career Center began in 1996 as a collaborative effort between local business and industry, the Caldwell County School system and Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. It was founded with the goal of equipping students with the skills necessary to be successful in the work place. Students who complete the Career Center course of study are highly trained in the basics of their field of study and will have earned credits that count toward a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree. They are ready to move into the direction they desire: immediate employment, completion of apprenticeship training, or continuing studies at a college or university.

Blue Ridge Electric is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative serving some 67,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Alexander, and Wilkes counties. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, provides propane and heating fuels from offices in Lenoir, Hickory, Boone, and West Jefferson. Its showrooms in the Blue Ridge Electric district offices offer gas logs, fireplaces and heaters.
