Local Students Awarded Scholarships from Blue Ridge Electric (Wilkes)

Wilkesboro, North Carolina (August 10, 2004) – As part of its commitment to community, Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation has awarded scholarships to several local students in the cooperative’s service area.
The scholarships are designed to assist students in their educational goals and are awarded annually to deserving high school seniors and adults living within the cooperative’s service territory. Students from Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes Counties were eligible for up to ten Goodman-Hurt Scholarships totaling $14,000.
Receiving a $1,000 Goodman-Hurt scholarship was Autumn Greene, daughter of Steven and Karen Greene of Deep Gap. She will attend Appalachian State University to major in elementary education. Also receiving a $1,000 Goodman-Hurt scholarship was Mindy Church, daughter of Wayne and Carmen Church of Purlear. She will attend Campbell University to major in pharmacy.
Applications for the scholarships are available each year through local high school guidance counselors, community colleges in the Blue Ridge Electric service territory, or on-line at www.BlueRidgeEMC.com.
