Boone, North Carolina (April 28, 2004) – Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation is pleased to announce their sponsorship of this year’s An Appalachian Summer Festival’s Outdoor Fireworks Concert featuring three legendary bands: The Platters, Beary Hobbs’ Drifters, and Cornell Gunter’s Coasters.
These well-known bands are famous for such songs as “Under the Boardwalk”, “This Magic Moment”, “There Goes My Baby” and “Only You”. The bands’ artistic contributions are widely recognized, with honors including The Platters induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Drifters headline appearance on Dick Clark’s 20th Anniversary of Rock and Roll 42 City Tour, and The Coasters’ Cornell Gunter’s lead in establishing “the rock revival” for 50s bands.
The Outdoor Fireworks Concert, held on July 31, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Appalachian State University’s campus, marks the culmination of An Appalachian Summer Festival. The concert concludes with the show’s trademark fireworks display. The annual event is a cultural arts program of Appalachian State University featuring visual and performing arts programs for all ages.
This is the seventh consecutive year that Blue Ridge Electric has sponsored the concert and fireworks show as a part of the cooperative’s commitment to local communities.
