Sparta, North Carolina (April 26, 2004) – As a part of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation’s commitment to the community, the district office in Alleghany has provided an outlet for local artists and students from Alleghany High School to display their artwork in the office lobby.
“We have a beautiful office with wonderful space and we wanted to make the best use of the space,” Joe Ward, Alleghany district manager, said. “We felt that displaying works by local artists, old and young, would give us another connection with the community.”
Currently, there are a variety of pieces on display, ranging from paintings to quilts. The office has been displaying local artwork from Blue Ridge Electric members since the new office opened in 2002.
The district office also displays art work from local students. Right now, Alleghany High School has about 12 students displaying their artwork in the office.
“The students are honored to be in the space,” Alleghany High School art teacher Donna Link said. “They gain a great sense of pride from having their art work displayed in a public forum, especially alongside other esteemed, local artists.”
The Alleghany district office looks forward to displaying more artwork from students and local artists. For more information on how to display artwork please contact the Alleghany office at (336) 372-4646 or stop by the office at 1889 Highway 21 South in Sparta to view the art collection.
