Lenoir, North Carolina (January 23, 2004) – Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation has continued their commitment to the community by partnering with Appalachian State University and hiring an intern from Appalachian’s communication department this year.
Jennifer Cowan, a senior public relations student at Appalachian, recently started her semester-long internship at Blue Ridge Electric’s corporate communications office in Lenoir, N.C. Cowan will gain a broad exposure to and experience in several key areas of a communications office.
“Working with Blue Ridge Electric will provide me with one of the best learning experiences possible— an opportunity to see a corporation’s partnership with its publics and media in action,” Cowan said.
Cowan also looks forward to putting what she has learned in the classroom at Appalachian to use in the office at Blue Ridge Electric.
“Jenny is very knowledgeable and motivated; we’re delighted to have her working with Blue Ridge Electric as an intern this semester,” said Renée Whitener, director of corporate communications. “We’ve designed her internship so that she receives tangible, hands-on experience that complements her course work at ASU and better prepares her for a career in corporate communications.”
Cowan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Cowan of Morganton. She is a 2000 graduate of Lejeune High School in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Blue Ridge Electric is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative serving some 66,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Alexander, and Wilkes counties.
