Local Students Awarded Broyhill Leadership Learning Opportunity By Blue Ridge Electric

Lenoir, North Carolina (July 24, 2003) – Summer vacation has been an opportunity for a couple of students to continue learning and obtaining critical skills that will last a lifetime through the Broyhill Leadership Conference at Belmont Abby College.

Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation awarded two students with sponsorships to this highly acclaimed five-day conference specifically designed for students in grades 10 through 12. Recipients are nominated by their schools.

Hannah Fortwengler, a Hibriten High School student and daughter of Terri and Gary Fortwengler of Caldwell County, received a sponsorship from Blue Ridge Electric. Justin Arnold, who attends Alleghany High School and is the son of Phil and Evelyn Arnold of Alleghany County, also received a sponsorship.

The Broyhill Leadership Conference strives to lead students to an understanding and usage of goal setting, motivational techniques, group dynamics, communication, and cooperation.

Blue Ridge Electric supports local communities and places a particular emphasis on support of local education. The utility is a not-for-profit electric cooperative affiliated with Touchstone Energy and serving some 65,000 consumers in Ashe, Alleghany, Caldwell, Watauga, and Wilkes counties.
