Blue Ridge Electric Board Elects Officers

Lenoir, North Carolina (July 17, 2001) - Board officers were elected for 2001-2002 and four directors were installed at the June board of directors meeting of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation. The meeting was held at the cooperative’s Ashe district office in West Jefferson.
The officers include: Johnnie R. Austin of Watauga district, president; John F. Woodruff of Alleghany district, vice president; Kenneth R. Greene of Ashe district, secretary- treasurer; and G.C. Norris of Watauga district, assistant secretary-treasurer.
Austin has served on the cooperative’s board for 31 years. He is also a board member of Federated Rural Electric Insurance Corporation, North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation, and represents Blue Ridge Electric on the executive committee of North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives.
Woodruff, a 33-year veteran of the board, is a board member of the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives, Inc.
Greene was elected to his third term as secretary-treasurer. He has served on the cooperative’s board for 13 years.|
Norris has been a board member for 20 years.
The four directors installed at the meeting were: Jeff Joines, Caldwell district; Johnnie Austin, Watauga district; Charles Edwards, Ashe district; and John Woodruff, Alleghany district. These directors were elected by the membership at Blue Ridge Electric’s Annual Membership Meeting on June 9.
Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving over 63,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Alexander and Wilkes counties. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, serves residents and businesses with propane, home heating fuels, and commercial gasoline from offices in Lenoir, Boone, West Jefferson, Sparta, and Hickory.
