Lenoir, North Carolina (May 18, 2001) – To better serve southern Caldwell County, Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation is upgrading its substation serving the Dry Ponds area midnight tonight, necessitating a brief outage for members in that area.
Power is expected to be off from a few minutes for up to hour for approximately 1,400 members of Blue Ridge Electric in the Dry Ponds area this evening.
The substation is being upgraded to meet the electricity needs of this fast- growing area of Caldwell County, according to Renee Whitener, corporate communications director. Blue Ridge Electric is conducting the upgrade during a time that normally causes the least impact on residents and businesses, Whitener added.
Whitener added that Blue Ridge Electric appreciates the cooperation and patience of its members as this necessary work is performed to ensure reliable service now and into the future for its members.
Blue Ridge Electric is a cooperative electric utility serving over 63,000 members in northwest North Carolina. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies offers propane, home heating fuels, and commercial gasoline to North and South Carolina.
