Lenoir, North Carolina (May 16, 2000) – Blue Ridge Electric recently hosted visitors from an electric cooperative utility in Bangladesh who came to learn more about financial functions and load control management.

The visit was coordinated through the National Rural Electrification Cooperative Association (NRECA), which sponsors an international partnership program in conjunction with foreign cooperatives.

The Bangladesh visitors began their visit to North Carolina in Raleigh at the North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation, the statewide association for electric cooperatives.

Hosting the Bangladesh team for the day were Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance/Information Services Lee Chase and Director of Finance/Controller Paula B. Pope.

“We were pleased to be able to assist our visitors with information on our activity based costing system, controlling, load control options and general financial management structures,” said Pope. “The philosophy of cooperative businesses centers on cooperatives helping each other as well as the members and communities they serve, and this visit was an excellent example,” Pope added.

Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit cooperative providing electric service to over 60,000 members in northwest North Carolina. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, provides propane, heating fuels, and commercial gasoline to a growing territory from offices in Lenoir, Morganton, Boone, and West Jefferson.
