Lenoir, North Carolina (May 9, 2000) – The Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce recently presented Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation with its “Customer First” award for excellence in customer service.
Shirley Orrell, right, Chamber president, and David Horn, president-elect of the Chamber, are shown presenting the award to Doug Johnson, center, chief executive officer of Blue Ridge Electric.
The cooperative’s customer service philosophy includes conducting regular surveys for formalized customer feedback and providing customer service awareness and sensitivity training for employees. The cooperative provides personal customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week all year ‘round to answer calls and meet energy needs in the field.
Other ways the cooperative focuses on customer service include: offering convenient payment options, a toll-free number to report outages or check account information, a bilingual customer service representative, loan programs, customer newsletter, the BREMCare program to help the needy with energy bills, diversified energy products and services, and most recently, a new web site that incorporates e-commerce—or the ability to pay your electric bill on-line and get extensive account information in a secure format.
Blue Ridge Electric is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving over 60,000 members in Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Watauga, Alexander, and Wilkes counties. Its subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies, provides propane, heating fuels, and commercial gasoline from offices in Lenoir, Morganton, Boone, and West Jefferson.
