Windows - Double pane or double pane with Low-E glazing - Note: square footage must not exceed code specifications for applicable zone.
Doors - metal insulated or wood with weather-stripping and storm door.
Headers - Insulate rim joist spaces that will be inaccessible after the subfloor is installed.
- Insulate all exterior window and door headers using rigid insulation board or unfaced fiberglass insulation.
- Insulate all exterior wall T-posts and corner posts prior to installing wall sheathing.
- Install insulation board on dormer sidewalls and knee walls prior to roof framing.
- Check ceiling insulation and make sure it is in contact with the top plate and sheetrock to avoid thermal bypasses.
