How To Read Your Meter
Reading Your Residential "Dial" Meter
Members are encouraged to check their electricity usage by reading their own meters at regular intervals.
There are several different types of meters, so contact Blue Ridge Electric if you have questions about your meter type.
To read your dial-type meter, start with the dial on the extreme right. When the dial pointer is between two numbers, write down the lower of the two numbers.
The only exception to this is when the pointer has passed 9 and is on the way to 0. Then the reading is 9. (Arrows above indicate the direction in which pointers move.)
Continue reading each dial from right to left, writing down the numbers as you go. The reading for the meter pictured above is 12739.
