High-Efficiency Gas Heating
Long term comfort, efficiency and reduced operating cost depend on wise decisions at the time of purchase. The guidelines are designed to help you in your selection and installation of a gas heating system.
Gas Heating System Guidelines:
Look at the A.F.U.E. rating. Today's high-efficiency furnaces have Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency or A.F.U.E. ratings as high as 95 percent plus. The higher ratings equate to higher efficiencies.
Look for a newly designed two-stage heating system which virtually eliminates the discomfort of temperature swings caused by short operating times - a situation common to older single-stage furnaces. Newer variable speed units are more efficient.
Depending upon your home's heating requirements, a variable speed blower motor can vary its speed, resulting in a quieter system, improved indoor air quality and increased comfort.
Gas pack systems offer you electric cooling and gas heating. In warm weather, it's an all-electric air conditioner. In cold weather, it's a high-efficiency propane or gas furnace, which gives you the best of both energy worlds.
Properly sized gas furnaces and package electric / gas units should be installed by professional heating and air conditioning contractors. The heating system must be sized to the individual needs of your home. The sizing should be based on the heat loss / gain calculation of your home in order to determine appropriate size.
Proper installation of duct work is critical to the performance of your heating systems - in fact, it's as critical as the equipment. Adequate airflow to each room will provide comfort and improved energy efficiency in your home.
